Managing classifications

Classification artifacts can be used like tags to control groupings of assets in your company. They can also define the type of sensitive information in an information asset. You can define new classification artifacts in addition to predefined classification artifacts that are provided by Watson Knowledge Catalog. You can assign a classification to an information asset or associate it with other governance artifacts.

Asset classifications are artifacts that you can create, view, edit, rename, publish, or delete.

Required permissions

To author classifications, you must have this user permission:

  • Access governance artifacts

Additionally, you must have one of these category collaborator roles in the primary category for the classification:

  • Admin
  • Owner
  • Editor
  • A custom role with the permission to create classifications.

Open Governance > Classifications, then:

  • Click New classification to create a new classification and complete the information about it.
  • You can then decide to:
    • Save the classification as a draft on the Draft tab.
    • Send the classification for approval. See Workflow.
