Troubleshooting data protection policies

This section helps you solve problems when implementing or working on data policies. You find tips and hints, for example, on what to consider for:

Business glossary

Consider the following:

  • You can’t change an associated classifier or term when the business term has related assets, policies, or rules. Refer to the Related content tab of a published business term to check the associations of this business term.
  • You can’t archive a business term that has related assets, policies, or rules. If you really want to archive this business term, open the Related content tab of a published business term to check its associations. Remove this term from the associated assets, policies, or rules, then click Archive.
  • The search can’t start with an asterisk (*).
  • Tags:
    • Are not case sensitive.
    • Can only contain spaces, letters, numbers, underscore, dash, # and @.
    • Use a comma to separate tag values.
      Example: Marketing, “Client Information”, Claim
Click the plus sign icon to add tags.
  • The owner name is missing or the email address has been removed from owner?
Only one owner is allowed. Start typing the name or email address of a user in your IBM Cloud account. You can then choose the account user from the selection list.
Note: The owner must have an IBM Cloud account email address.

Categories

Consider the following:

  • A valid name can contain the following characters: letters, numbers, underscore, dash, space, and period.
  • You first have to create a category, then create and add policies to this category.

Import business terms

Consider the following:

  • You can import business terms using valid CSV or XMI files.
  • The import summary shows if the import was successful or provides detailed information if the file import failed.
  • If the file import failed, you can download the report for further analysis. Fix the errors in the file and import it again.
  • If the file to be imported, contains an entry for an existing business term, this term can’t be imported. Download and check the report file for details.
  • If you click Cancel while file import is in progress, the import action stops and the terms that have already been imported successfully are listed for you to decide how to proceed.

Data protection policies

Consider the following:

  • Can’t create policies? Can’t find Add on the Policy Manager page. Ask your IBM Watson administrator to give you the Admin role for the Watson Knowledge Catalog app.
  • You can’t create a policy without an existing category. You first have to create a category, then create and add policies to this category.
  • You can’t delete published policies, but you can archive them. If a policy is archived, you can view or delete this policy, but you can’t republish archived policies.
  • A valid name can contain the following characters: letters, numbers, underscore, dash, space, and period.
  • You can’t reuse the name of an archived policy when you create a new policy.
  • Policy Manager only shows the policies of the catalog that belongs to the currently logged in account.

Rules and rule builder

Consider the following:

  • You can’t delete existing rules.
  • No matches for user IDs? Start typing the name or email address of a user in your IBM Cloud account. You can then choose the account user from the selection list. If there is no match, update your IBM Cloud account to include this user.
  • Can’t mask data? Only columns containing data values of type SSN (US social security numbers) can be masked.
  • Considerations for data anonymization.
