To deploy the Data Virtualization service, you must create a Data Virtualization service instance. Follow these steps to provision Data Virtualization for Cloud Pak for Data as a Service.
Step 1: Provision a service instance
- Required permissions
- You must be the IBM Cloud account owner or administrator.
To create the Data Virtualization service:
- If necessary, log in to IBM Cloud and upgrade your IBM Cloud account to Pay-as-you-go. For more information, see Setting up the IBM Cloud account.
- If you have a promotional code, from the IBM Cloud console, go to Manage > Billing and usage and select Promotions to apply your promo code for a promotional credit toward usage.
- From the Cloud Pak for Data as a Service console, go to Services > Services catalog.
- Select Data Virtualization.
- Select a region, choose a pricing plan, configure your resource, and click Create.
Step 2: Create IAM service credentials
Data Virtualization uses your IBM Cloud credentials to connect to the service. You need the service credentials to use many of the Data Virtualization tools. After creating the Data Virtualization service on IBM Cloud, you can create IAM service credentials.
- Required permissions
- You must be the IBM Cloud account owner or administrator.
To create the IAM service credentials:
- From the Cloud Pak for Data as a Service console, go to Services > Services instances and click your Data Virtualization service instance.
- On the service instance details page, click Service credentials.
- If there are no credentials listed, follow these steps:
- Click New credential.
- Click Add.
- Expand the service credentials, and copy them to the clipboard. You will need these credentials later to configure a connection, so you may want to save the credentials in a text file.
Next steps
- Finish the remaining steps for setting up the platform.
- Review roles for user and groups in Data Virtualization.
