Switching between experiences

Last updated: Nov 21, 2024
Switching between experiences

If you have access to more than one experience on the platform, you can switch between them. For example, you might have access to Cloud Pak for Data as a Service, IBM watsonx as a Service, and Data Fabric experience.

An experience provides focused access to the tools that you need to complete specific tasks. If you sign up for multiple experiences in the same IBM Cloud account, you share some services and workspaces between them.

To switch between experiences:

  1. Log in to any of your experiences.
  2. On the experience home page, click the Switch platform icon alt="" next to your avatar, and select another experience.

The experiences that you can see depend on your account.

Shared service instances and resource consumption

Some services are shared with other experiences. For example, all experiences use IBM Cloud Object Storage for storage. You can use the same instance of the IBM Cloud Object Storage service in all experiences.

The following table lists the services that are shared between the experiences.

|Shared service|Cloud Pak for Data as a Service|watsonx|Data Fabric| |-----|----|----| |IBM Cloud Object Storage|✓|✓|✓| |watsonx.ai Studio|✓|✓| | |watsonx.ai Runtime|✓|✓| | |IBM Knowledge Catalog|✓| |✓|

The resources that you consume for shared service instances is cumulative. For example, suppose you use 3 CUH for watsonx.ai Studio on Cloud Pak for Data as a Service in the first half of July. Then, you switch to watsonx and use 3 CUH for watsonx.ai Studio in the second half of July. Your total CUH for the watsonx.ai Studio service for July is 6 CUH.

Shared projects

All your projects are visible and accessible in both the watsonx and Data Fabric experiences. In each experience, you see only those assets that are valid in that experience. For example, you can see prompt templates in the watsonx experience, but not in the Data Fabric experience. You can see metadata enrichment assets in the Data Fabric experience, but not in the watsonx experience.

Switch projects and deployment spaces between the Cloud Pak for Data as a Service and watsonx experiences

Your projects are not shared between Cloud Pak for Data as a Service and any other experience. However, you can switch a project or a deployment space between Cloud Pak for Data as a Service and the watsonx experience if that project or space meets the requirements and restrictions. See Switching the experience for a project and Switching the experience for a deployment space.

Catalogs

You share your catalogs across experiences that include the IBM Knowledge Catalog service.

You share a single Platform assets catalog between all experiences. Connection assets in your Platform assets catalog are available everywhere. However, if you add other types of assets to the Platform assets catalog, you can't access those types of assets on watsonx.

Notifications

Your notifications are specific to each experience.
