Activating the Hybrid Subscription Advantage

The IBM Hybrid Subscription Advantage program is a licensing benefit that applies existing on-premises Cloud Pak for Data software entitlements within the Cloud Pak for Data as a Service portfolio. The workloads that run in IBM Cloud are significantly discounted. The Hybrid Subscription Advantage can be enabled and disabled as hybrid deployment requirements change.

When activating the Hybrid Subscription Advantage, you are required to review and accept the Terms and Conditions. You can review the Terms and Conditions here: SLA - bm-8940-01

Activating discounts

The Hybrid Subscription Advantage can be activated at any time. The Hybrid Subscription Advantage is available for paid accounts (either Pay-as-you-go or Subscription). It cannot be used with unpaid accounts (Lite or Trial).

Before activating the Hybrid Subscription Advantage, gather the following information:

  • The services on Cloud Pak for Data as a Service that you want to include in the Hybrid Subscription Advantage
  • The Cloud Pak for Data Software Program Edition
  • The number of Virtual Processor Cores (VPCs) required. Refer to the Entitlement ratio tables to determine the VPC requirement for your workload.

Required role: You need to be the Account Owner or Administrator for the IBM Cloud Account to activate the Hybrid Subscription Advantage.

Follow these steps to enable discounts for each service:

  1. Choose Administer > Hybrid Subscription Advantage.
  2. For each cloud service you want to enroll, select the Software Program Edition. If there is only one Edition available, it will be pre-seclected for you.
  3. Check the box to Enable discounts for each service.
  4. The required minimum number of VPCs for the Software Program Edition is automatically entered in the Apply VPCs column. You cannot enter a value lower than the required minimum. The total number of VPCs for all services cannot exceed 350 without approval from your IBM representative.
  5. Click Apply when finished.
  6. To complete the registration for the Hybrid Subscription Advantage, review your enrollments in the confirmation box. Check the box to confirm the eligibility of your license entitlements and agree to the terms and conditions.
  7. Click Confirm.

Discounts for the selected Cloud Pak for Data as a Service services start immediately. The applied VPCs are not available for on-premises use while enabled for the Hybrid Subscription Advantage.

Deactivating discounts

The Hybrid Subscription Advantage can be deactivated at any time.

To deactivate the discount:

  1. Clear the checkbox to disable the discount for a service.
  2. Review your enrollments in the confirmation box. Check the box to confirm the eligibility of your license entitlements and agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Click Confirm.

Discounts for the selected services stop at the end of the current billing period, and the Program Licenses are placed back into the pool of on-premises licenses.

Updating discounts

You can update the number of VPCs that are applied to the discount at any time. Increase the number of Applied VPCs to allocate more VPCs as you transition to cloud. Decrease the number of Applied VPCs to reduce cloud usage in favor of on-premises usage.

To update the discount:

  1. Click the up or down arrows to increase or decrease the VPCs for an enabled service.
  2. Review your enrollments in the confirmation box. Check the box to confirm the eligibility of your license entitlements and agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Click Confirm.

Updates in the number of applied VPCs take effect immediately. When services are added, the discount is applied immediately. For removed services, discounts stop at the end of the current billing period.

Entitlement ratio tables

The Hybrid Subscription Advantage discount applies to the identified charge metrics listed in the entitlement ratio tables - other applicable charges are not discounted. The entitlement ratio tables provide the ratios of required license entitlements for the eligible IBM Software Programs and IBM Cloud Services.

The tables indicate the eligible IBM Cloud Services for each IBM Software Program. The ratios define the equivalence between the IBM Software Program and the IBM Cloud Service. The IBM Software Program metric is Virtual Processor Cores (VPCs). The metrics for IBM Cloud Services vary by offering, but typically have a required Instance metric and one or more additional metrics to scale consumption or compute hours.

The Hybrid Subscription Advantage is supported for the following IBM Software Programs:
