Completing an applicability assessment

Use cases move through a review and approval process. During this process, you can do an applicability assessment in Governance console to determine whether your use case is in scope for regulations, such as the EU AI Act.

Applicability Assessment
The Applicability Assessment is based on the EU AI Act Applicability Assessment questionnaire template. This assessment enables clients to assess their AI uses cases using a simple questionnaire that aids in determining whether a use case is in scope for the EU AI Act and which risk category the use case aligns to (Prohibited, High, Limited, Minimal).

To see a list of questionnaire templates, click Primary menu icon > Assessments > Questionnaire templates.

Procedure

To assess regulatory applicability for a use case, do the following steps:

  1. Click Home button to go to the dashboard.
  2. Click the My Tasks tab, and then click the use case that you want to assess.
  3. Read about the use case.
  4. Under Regulatory Information, click an applicability assessment.

For example, watsonx.governance includes a predefined Applicability Asessement for the EU AI Act. This assessment can help you to determine whether a use case is in scope for the EU AI Act and which risk category the use case aligns to (Prohibited, High, Limited, Minimal).

  5. Complete the questionnaire.
The status shows you the number of questions and how many were answered.

For some questions, you might need to enter a comment or attach a file.

To see the history of an answer, click Activity.

  6. Click Actions > Applicability assessment complete.
  7. Click Actions > Start AI Assessment Workflow.

The EU AI Risk Category field displays the result of the assessment.

  8. Click Actions > Submit for stakeholer review.

The use case stakeholders receive a notification to review the use case.
