Creating data classes based on reference data sets in Knowledge Accelerators

Watson Knowledge Catalog supports data classes which allow the automation of data classification and term assignment (governance) for data assets.

About this task

Using Knowledge Accelerators, thousands of terms are available to the Data Discovery matching routines and suggest term assignments. Data discovery works as described in the Watson Knowledge Catalog.

There are a number of predefined data classes available for example account number, driving license.

In addition, Knowledge Accelerators, also include large number of reference data sets that can be used to create additional data classes. For example, IBM Knowledge Accelerator for Insurance contains the Reference Data Set Product Component which contains 150+ values for product components. These reference data sets are already related to business terms.

Procedure

To create a data class from the reference data sets.

  1. Select Governance > Data Classes.
  2. On drop-down menu, select New data class and Create new data class
  3. Give the data class a name, assign a primary category and Save as draft.
  4. Under Data Matching, add a matching method and select Match to reference data.
  5. Type the name of the reference data set, for example product component to find the reference data set.
  6. Select the reference data set in the search results and click Next.
  7. Assign any other Matching criteria such as data type.
  8. Assign business terms to improve data discovery as appropriate.
  9. Finally, publish the data class to the catalog.
