Finding cache recommendations in Watson Query

Finding cache recommendations for queries in Watson Query

Watson Query Managers can find cache recommendations to improve query performance.

About this task

In the Recommended data caches tab of the Cache management page, as a Watson Query Manager, you can find cache recommendations to improve query performance.

Procedure

  1. Go to Data > Data virtualization > Virtualization > Cache management.
  2. Click Find recommendations on the Recommended caches tab.
Cache recommendations that were found are listed on the table.

The amount of time that the recommendation engine requires to generate and list recommendations depends on the number of candidates and the number of queries that were collected for analysis. Hence, this amount of time can vary. The dashboard that displays the list of recommendations continuously polls the recommendation engine for updates.

The recommendation engine might also generate recommendations for deactivating or deleting existing caches based on past usage and other metrics. Recommendations for deactivating caches are displayed in the Active caches tab. Recommendations for deleting caches can be displayed in both Active or Inactive caches tabs. Deactivation recommendations are made based on cache usage history since its existence. Deletion recommendations are usually made based on available cache storage space.

  3. Click Add cache in the Recommendation column to add this cache.

You can click the number of queries in the Matched queries column on the Recommended data caches tab to see a list of matched queries for a specific cache. A matched query means that Watson Query determined that the cache matched with the selected queries, and if you choose to create the cache, those queries are likely to use the cache at run time. Whether query performance improves or not depends on other factors in the overall query plan.
