Accessing data sources by using IBM Cloud Satellite connectors in Data Virtualization
Connect to on-premises data sources to Data Virtualization by setting up a connection to IBM Cloud Satellite Connectors.
About this task
IBM Cloud Satellite Connectors enable you to securely connect to your on-premises data sources. To establish a IBM Cloud Satellite Connector connection, you must create a IBM Cloud Satellite Connector in IBM Cloud, set up IBM Cloud Satellite agents, and then create a new connection in Data Virtualization or import an existing platform connection that was created by using IBM Cloud Satellite Connector.
For more information on IBM Cloud Satellite Connectors, see IBM Cloud Satellite Connector overview.
Before you begin
-
To access IBM Cloud Satellite connector services from Data Virtualization, you need the Satellite Link Administrator service role and Viewer platform role for IBM Cloud Satellite.
For more information, see Platform roles and Service roles in IAM platform and service access roles.
-
To create a IBM Cloud Satellite Connector connection, you need the Administrator platform role for IBM Cloud Satellite.
-
To connect an agent to an existing connector, you need the Viewer platform role for IBM Cloud Satellite.
For more information, see IBM Cloud IAM roles.
Procedure
- In IBM Cloud, select then select your region.
- Select Create Connector and then name the connector.
- Select Create to create a IBM Cloud Satellite Connector.
- Create a IBM Cloud Satellite agent by completing the steps in Running a Connector agent.
- Create a IBM
Cloud Satellite Connector connection
from Data Virtualization or by importing an existing platform connection.
- To create a connection from Data Virtualization, complete the following steps.
- In Data Virtualization, navigate to the Data sources page and then select .
- Select the on-premises data source that you want your IBM Cloud Satellite Connector to connect to.
- Enter the following information:
- Name of the connection
- Hostname or IP address of the connection
- Port number
- Database name
- Username
- Password
- In Private connectivity, select IBM Cloud Satellite, and then select the name of your connector.
- Select Create.
- Optional: If you want to add another IBM
Cloud Satellite Connector, then navigate to
Private connector and select the connector you want to add. Note: This option lets you bypass the endpoint creation limit for each connector. If you have more than 13 data sources, then you need to create another connector, and then add it through the Add collaborators and add the connection to a remote connector page.
- Select Continue.
- Your data source connection now appears in the Data sources page under the Table view.
- To create a connection by importing an existing platform connection, complete the following steps.
- In IBM Cloud Pak for Data, navigate to Platform connections.
- Select the connector for creating a data source connection.
- Enter the following information:
- Name of the connection
- Hostname or IP address of the connection
- Port number
- Database name
- Username
- Password
- In Private connectivity, select IBM Cloud Satellite, and then select the name of your connector.
- Select Create.
- In the Data sources page, select .
- Select the data source that you want to add, and then select Add.
