Assigning service ID permissions required for Data Virtualization upgrade

Grant required permissions to your Data Virtualization Service ID before your Data Virtualization instance is upgraded to the latest version.

Before you begin

You must have the IAM Administrator role. For more information, see IBM Cloud IAM roles.

About this task

The most recent release of Data Virtualization introduces enhanced governance integration with Cloud Pak for Data, and requires extra permissions for the Service ID that interacts with Cloud Pak for Data as a Service. For the new governance artifacts to be properly initialized, complete the following steps to grant the required permissions before your instance is upgraded.

Note: Complete this task before your Data Virtualization instance is upgraded to the latest version.

Procedure

  1. Log in to your IBM Cloud account as the IAM Administrator that hosts your Data Virtualization instance.
  2. Go to Service IDs.
  3. From the Name column, select Data Virtualization service id for publishing to IBM Knowledge Catalog and connection management.
  4. Select Assign access.
  5. In Create policy, select the UI tab, and then complete the following steps.
    1. In Service, select IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
    2. Select Next.
    3. In Resources, select All resources.
    4. Select Next.
    5. In Roles and actions, select Cloud Pak Data Source Administrator and Cloud Pak Data Source Creator.
    6. Select Next.
    7. Select Add.
    8. Select Assign to assign the additional roles.
    The service ID page appears.
  6. To confirm that both roles are granted, navigate to the Access policies section of the page. Then check that Cloud Pak Data Source Administrator and Cloud Pak Data Source Creator are assigned to IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
