Enabling autocaching to automate the caching lifecycle in Data Virtualization

Enable autocaching to automate the caching lifecycle from cache creation to deletion.

Before you begin

You must be a Data Virtualization Manager role to complete this task. For more information, see Managing roles for users in Data Virtualization.

Procedure

Autocaching is disabled by default, and you can enable it by completing the following steps.

  1. Navigate to the Cache management page.

  2. In the Cache management page, select Autocaching.

  3. In the settings, toggle Autocaching and then configure the following settings:

    • Schedule autocaching to run: Specify how often you want autocaching to run, and create and evict caches.

    • Create a prefix for autocaching: Specify the prefix that you want autocaching to use when generating caches. The prefix precedes a series of numbers to create a unique identifier that identifies autogenerated caches.

    • Storage size: Specify the amount of storage space that autogenerated caches can occupy. This is a soft limit that you allocate from within the larger cache storage space. The amount of storage you allocate must be greater than 0 GB.

    • Cache refresh rate: Specify how often you want each autogenerated cache to refresh and fetch new content from its data source.

    • Enable machine learning-based model: Enable ML-based model for autocaching to improve cache recommendations beyond the default rule-based model.

    • Minimum completion time of queries (seconds): Specify which queries you want autocaching to analyze by how long it took to run those queries.

For example: A value of 30 seconds means that autocaching analyzes queries that took at least 30 seconds to run.

    • Time period of queries (last x days): Specify the duration in days that autocaching should consider for its query workload.

For example: A value of 15 days means that autocaching will analyze queries that were ran successfully within the last 15 days.

    • Number of times unique queries were completed: Specify which queries you want autocaching to analyze by how many times you ran a unique query.

For example: A value of 5 times means that autocaching analyzes unique queries that ran at least 5 times.

  4. Select Save.

    Autocaching is enabled.
