DataStage parallel engine environments for Satellite locations
With the IBM® DataStage® parallel (PX) engine remote runtime as-a-service, you can run jobs in IBM Cloud and on prebuilt Satellite locations that are managed by IBM.
When you run jobs with the DataStage PX remote runtime as-a-service, you can integrate and transform data without necessarily moving it. IBM manages the PX engine runtime in the Satellite location.
Creating an environment for the DataStage PX engine service in a Satellite location
An environment is a self-contained space where jobs are run in isolation, independent of other jobs that are running on other environments. Multiple environment configuration options for the DataStage PX engine on IBM cloud are available by default for your projects. To run DataStage jobs in Satellite locations, you need to create environment definitions.
Currently, you need to use DataStage in the Dallas data center of IBM Cloud to use the PX engine in a Satellite location. The currently available Satellite location is Amazon Web Services US-East (Northern Virginia).
You must have the Admin or Editor role within the project to create an environment definition.
- From the Environments tab in your project, click New environment definition under Environment definitions.
- Enter a name and a description, then select DataStage under Define configuration.
- Choose hardware configurations for the DataStage runtime from the drop-down menu under Hardware configuration.
- Select AWS (via Satellite) as the location.
- Select the region aws-useast1-nvirginia (aws-useast1-nvirginia-r02).
- Click Create.
The new environment definition for the Satellite location is listed under Environment definitions on the Environments page of your project.
After you create the environment definition, you can select it when you run a DataStage PX engine job. If you select a Satellite environment, the job runs in the Satellite location, but operational metadata for the job is stored in IBM Cloud® Object Storage on IBM cloud.
