Creating, scheduling, running, and monitoring jobs in DataStage

Create, schedule, run, monitor, and view logs for jobs that are generated from DataStage® flows. Jobs are runtime assets that are generated from DataStage flows. They are shared across the platform.

Jobs are runtime instances that are created from data flows. Many jobs can be created from one data flow. You might want to create many jobs from a single flow to run the jobs on different schedules or with different parameters, for example.

Creating, scheduling, and running jobs

To create, schedule, and run a job from a DataStage flow, complete the following steps.

  1. Open the project where the DataStage flow exists on Cloud and locate the flow in the DataStage flows section.
  2. Click the Action menu (Action menu image) icon and select Create job.
  3. Add a name and optional description for the job on the Define details page and click Next.
  4. Select your environment and the number of warnings you want to allow before the stage is stopped on the Run settings page. Click Next.
  5. Select runtime parameter values if your DataStage flow has them.
  6. To schedule job runs, select Schedule to run and specify a start data and time. Select Repeat if you want to repeat the job at specified times every minute, hour, day, week, or month.
  7. Click Create or Create and run when you are done setting up the job.

You can also run jobs from the canvas and the jobs dashboard.

Monitoring jobs

To monitor a job, complete the following steps.

  1. Open an existing project and select Jobs.
  2. Select the job name and the job start time.
  3. Review the run details.

Reviewing logs

There are two ways to view job logs:

  1. Open an existing project and select Jobs. Next, open a job and click the start time of the job instance that you want to view the logs for. From here you can:
    • Use the search bar to search the logs.
    • Click the download icon to download the logs.
    • Click the copy to the clipboard icon to copy the log contents.
  2. Open, compile, and run a data flow. On the data flow canvas, click the logs icon. From here you can:
    • Use the search bar to search the logs.
    • Click the Compile or the Log tab. Optionally, use the search bar to search your logs. If warnings or fatal errors are produced, click the icon to view the messages.
    • Click the download icon to download the logs.
    • Click the copy to the clipboard icon to copy the log contents.
