Adding data to IBM DataStage

Adding data to IBM DataStage

After you’ve created a project and you’ve created connections or you’ve added data assets to the project, you can add data to IBM® DataStage® and start prepping that data for ETL tasks.

Navigate to DataStage

Navigate to DataStage from within a project. Click New asset + > DataStage flow. If you already have a DataStage flow, you can go to the project’s DataStage flows section and click New DataStage flow +.

Add data

Add data assets or connections to a project. You can use the assets and connections in DataStage flows.
  • To add data, such as a .csv file, click the "0100" data icon in the toolbar. The Data panel opens. You can then add files in one of the following ways:
    • Drag a file from your computer onto the Load tab.
    • Browse for a file from the Load tab.
    • Click the Files tab to select files.
    • Click the Catalog tab to select files.
  • To add a connection from a project, click Assets > New asset > Data access tools > Connection.
See Creating a DataStage flow to use the assets that you added. From the DataStage design canvas, expand the Connectors section and drag the Asset browser icon onto the palette. You can then browse and select your data assets.

Adding DataStage jobs from an ISX file to a project

If you are an existing DataStage user, you can export your existing assets to an ISX file by using the istool command. For instructions, see Export command for InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage assets and How to use ISTOOL for EXPORT IMPORT Information Server Components.

To add DataStage jobs from an ISX file to a project:
  1. Open an existing project or create a new one.
  2. Click New asset + and select DataStage flow.
  3. On the ISX file import tab, click Add file.
  4. Browse to the file that you want to import and click Import.

Note: If you add an ISX file directly to a project or import it as an asset, but do not add it through the DataStage flow screen, the ISX file is treated as a data asset. The file is imported, but the individual flows and jobs are not displayed as flows and assets in the project. No assets from the file are imported.

When the upload is complete, the import is queued for processing and might take some time to complete. The "Import ISX" report automatically refreshes to show the latest import state.
