Candlestick charts
Candlestick charts are a style of financial charts that are used to describe price
movements of a security, derivative, or currency. Each candlestick element typically shows one day.
A one-month chart might show the 20 trading days as 20 candlesticks elements. Candlestick charts are
most often used in the analysis of equity and currency price patterns and are similar to box
plots.
The data set that is used to create a candlestick chart must contain open, high, low, and close values for each time period you want to display.
Creating a simple Candlestick chart
- In the Chart Type section, click the Candlestick
icon.
The canvas updates to display a Candlestick chart template.
- Select a variable as the X-axis variable.
- Select a variable as the High variable.
- Select a variable as the Low variable.
- Click the Save visualization in the project control. Select Create a new asset or Append to existing asset. Provide a Visualization asset name, an optional description, and a chart name.
- Click Apply to save the visualization to the project. The new visualization asset is now available on the Assets tab.
Options
- X-axis
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's X-axis.
- Summary
- When enabled, summary calculations for available for the following options.
- High
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's high price value.
- High field summary
- Select a statistical summary function for the selected high variable.
- Low
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's low price value.
- Open
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's opening price value.
- Close
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's closing price value.
- Volume
- Lists variables that are available for the chart's volume bars.
- Category order
- Select the order in which variable categories are sorted.
- As read
- Variable categories are presented as they appear in the data set.
- Ascending
- Sort variable categories in ascending order.
- Descending
- Sort variable categories in descending order.
- Candlestick
- Toggles the chart data to display as either candlestick or line.
- Primary title
- The chart title.
- Subtitle
- The chart subtitle.
- Footnote
- The chart footnote.
- XAxis label
- The x-axis label.
- YAxis label
- The y-axis label.
